Marilyn is a Nova Scotian, born and bred, having grown up on a little farm in Manchester, Guysborough County, the daughter of a local taxi driver, and a pretty little Acadian girl from Isle Madame.
After a successful seven year career in Radio Broadcasting, she obtained her Real Estate license in 1991, and in 1996 opened her own independent company, People Realty Limited, which evolved into Sceles Realty Limited, operating from a small office adjacent to her residence at 143 Hawthorne Street Antigonish, Nova Scotia, whose location remains unchanged to this day.
One source of great pride in stepping out into the somewhat scary and very exciting world of business ownership, was the deliberate inclusion of her own last name, SCELES, into the name of my company. She wanted to send a clear and sincere message, “that I staked my very name on the honesty, integrity, and ethics that I vowed to provide to each and every client who came through my door. This was the way I was raised; it was the only way I knew how to do business”.
Many years and many precious clients later, SCELES REALTY operates very successfully, with a new Broker/Owner, her daughter, GISELLE SCELES. However, the fundamental guidelines remain the same…to give good, honest, informed service to those who wish to buy or sell property in our niche area.
These past years, since SCELES REALTY LIMITED opened it’s doors, have seen a lot of changes in the world, in Canada, and indeed, even in the quaint hamlets of Nova Scotia. As we grow older, it is more likely that we count our blessings …and Marilyn “considers myself very fortunate to have Nova Scotia soil running in my veins, to have my child take over the reins, and to have a little piece of Nova Scotia coastline to wake up to every morning. Its innocence, in today’s world, is rare”.
Mike McLean hails from Pictou County and earned a BSc in Mathematics from Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. Mike holds post graduate degrees from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Kings College, London. Married for the past 25 years to Marilyn Sceles, the founder of Sceles Realty, Mike and Marilyn now live in Guysborough Nova Scotia where Sceles Realty just opened its second real estate office in their home at 149 Lower Water Street.
Before real estate, Mike enjoyed a successful career in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he worked/travelled all over the world and rose to the rank of full Colonel. Upon completion of his real estate training Mike embarked upon this second career and has over the years learned much from Marilyn and her daughter Giselle – the current owner and broker of the company. There is something special and rewarding working in a small family-run firm – a perfect match for Mike in small town and rural Nova Scotia.
Mike’s enthusiasm for Nova Scotia coupled with the integrity and work ethic that propelled his success in the Air Force make for a good fit for buyers or sellers when making one of the most important decisions of their lives. Mike especially enjoys helping those who are first-time buyers/sellers, out-of-country buyers or otherwise vulnerable when navigating the complexities of Nova Scotia Real Estate. Mike is most comfortable and knowledgeable when assisting those buying or selling in Guysborough, Antigonish, New Glasgow or Pictou.
